Uses

This plant is commonly used as an ornamental, grown for its flowers. In Cambodia the flowers are used to make necklaces and in offerings to the deities. In traditional medicine used in that country, a decoction of the bark is given in varying doses as a purgative or as a remedy against oedema.

Description

Nearly evergreen small tree, up to 6 m tall. Young branches terete. Leaves simple, obovate to oblong-obovate, coriaceous, glabrous, base acutely cuneate, sometimes acute or rounded, apex rounded to emarginate often short mucronate, margin entire. Inflorescence a cyme. Flowers bisexual, white with yellow throats, fragrant. Fruit a follicle, 10‐22 cm long.
