Description

Evergreen tree, up to 20 m tall. Bark pale grey, branchlets pubescent when young, later glabrous, striate. Leaves simple, alternate, ovate-lanceolate, oblong-lanceolate or broadly elliptic, coriaceous, base obtuse or rounded, apex acute or shallow acuminate, margin entire. Inflorescence an axillary, drooping raceme. Flowers fragrant, bisexual, petals 6, green when young, yellow when mature, minutely pubescent. Fruit a fascicle of stipulate berries; monocarps ovoid, globose or oblong, pulpy, glabrous, black when ripe. Seeds 2-12 per monocarp.
