Description

Large deciduous tree, up to 25 m high. Bark smooth, grey, wood greenish-brown,; twigs terete, glabrous. Leaves palmate, 5-7 foliate, opposite; leaflets ovate to elliptical, chartaceous to membranous, lepidote, pubescent, base cuneate to rounded, apex acuminate, margin entire or serrulate. Inflorescence a terminal panicle. Flower large, tubular, pinkish- purple to deep magenta, pubescent. Fruit a capsule, elongated-cylindrical, attenuate at both ends, glabrous, 12-56 cm long. Seeds with hyaline wings.
