Uses

The bark and leaves are used for treating oedema, diabetes, leprosy and other skin diseases, intestinal disorders, piles and sprue. The seed and a paste of the stem bark is used in treating ringworm.

Description

Large Deciduous tree, about 20‐25 m tall, bark whitish grey to brown, bruised bark and crushed leaves give a strong smell, brachlets pubescent. Leaves simple, alternate, elliptic-ovate, ovate-oblong or ovate, coriaceous, glabrous above, pubescent below, base rounded or subcordate, apex acuminate, margin entire, distinctly serrate when young. Inflorescnece a axillary fascicle. Flowers polygamous, greenish-purple, pubescent; female flowers with longer pedicels. Fruit a samara, 3 cm across, orbicular, wings nerved, glabrous, seed one and flat.
